The Singapore Sports Hub
The Singapore Sports Hub

It has been 22 years, and Singapore is once again hosting the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). This is the 28th instance of the biennial regional sporting event, with games held at various sporting venues across the island. Regulated and supervised by the International Olympic Council and Olympic Council of Asia, the Games feature several core sports that would not look out of place in the Olympics proper, and host nations have the discretion to include their unique regional sports in the lineup. Incidentally, the pomp and ceremony comes complete with its own eternal flame

For those who failed to secure access to the ceremonies and competitions (like yours truly), there was an ongoing carnival spanning the entire length of the fortnight-long event. It included games for the kids, live performances and live coverage of the sports and their results.

SEA Games Carnival
People and carnivals and concerts oh my!

Despite completely missing the opening ceremony (BOOooo!) I did manage to stalk the closing ceremony’s fireworks from across the Kallang Basin. It is a bit of a walk away from the venue, across a bridge and onto the opposing bank, but the stroll is well worth it considering that it provides one of the best publicly accessible vantage points that encompass the Sports Hub itself and the fireworks display to come. Overall, a night well spent!
