Halloween, or rather, Samhain. The season where the veil between worlds is at its thinnest, and the finest specimens come to visit from the domains beyond our own boring mortal reality. Having a Samhain celebration in Singapore is odd at best, seeing as how the concept of it being “summer’s end” in a land with…pretty much nothing but summer.

Apart from celebratory drinks the night before, I reckoned it would be a great opportunity to hit the Bukit Brown cemetery (post coming soon for that one). At the end of the visit, the lovely Lady Raven saw fit to present me with a very special cake, of her own creation, inspired by the shared craze of the moment.

It would be one of the rare moments where I believe it to be actually appropriate to post images of one’s nommy victuals. This particular delicacy came appropriately packaged in a rather familiar cooler bag, amply supplied with ice packs to keep it fresh throughout the hours long trek through a jungly cemetery on a summer’s night.

A mysterious, yet familiar delivery.
A mysterious, yet familiar delivery. Especially for one who knows who…or what Liv Moore is.

Knowing my preference for the macabre and especially that which has a suitable helping of the nectar of life, this specimen was delivered with an accompaniment of maple syrup colored to a most fetching (and appetizing) hue.

The well formed wrinkles of the cerebrum seem to be constituted by a firm frosting that tastes faintly of coffee (however Lady Raven would protest to the contrary). I attribute this perception to the ample availability of maple syrup which colors the aroma of this delicacy.

An incision parting the Corpus Callosum reveals a core of spongiform cake matter. I expect the originator of this specimen must have experienced some degree of unfortunate encephalopathy. Being unable to distinguish frontal lobe from the absent cerebellum, I was forced to cut the examination short and abandon all hope of performing a prefrontal leukotomy.

Instead, I thought it well and good that I partake of this most tantalizing repast without further ado. To one and all I wish a happy Halloween/Samhain (whichever your preference may be) and don’t let the zombies bite.
